Wales' Tales 6/24/15

On the horizon a new vision stands,
The promise - a journey to far distant lands,
A time to refresh, a time to renew,
A time to relax and achieve a fresh view.
The promise of travel, of time in the air,
A chance to look out and observe with a stare.
The world as it spreads out way down below
The rivers, the valleys, the fields full of crops,
The forests, the mountains with snow at the tops.
To take a vacation away from our work
Can help to review, to provide a new perk.
A time to change venues, a time to just rest
And see with new eyes, exploring the best
Of God’s many blessings, the gifts that we get,
As we live our lives in a rut that is set
By schedules that trap us and keep us in line
And soon we accept them as being just fine.
We’re driven by things that we think must be done.
We work ‘til exhausted, and miss all the fun
Of seeing the world as God meant it to be,
A gift of creation, so wide and so free,
So I’m on vacation, just taking a break
Enjoying no schedule
Just plans that we’ll make
As we go to places that call to us there,
We’ll surely enjoy what God sends
With a prayer.
And ‘til our vacation does finally cease
We’ll keep you in mind and hope you find God’s..

Wales' Tales 6/8/15

Kids came rushing in the doors,
Laughing, jumping, wanting s’mores
VBS has just begun
A week of music, food and fun.
Crafts and games and songs and play
Filling each and every day.
Reading scripture, saying prayers,
Running up and down the stairs.
Pure excitement , youthful bliss
Will adults survive all this?
We are climbing to the top
Everest is where we’ll stop.
Catching visions of our God,
As the mountain path we trod.
Past the igloo made to last,
Down the cavern slick and fast,
Sharing our adventure time
Seeking to relate the rhyme
Of life lived in God’s pure light
Each and every weekday night.
Singing to enhance the soul,
Learning what will make us whole.
Sharing faith and growing strong,
Teaching right and shunning wrong.
Lots of work went into motion
Planning, building, true devotion.
Wanting to create a place
Where kids can meet God face to face.
Just a chance to share Good News,
From a child’s simple views
Of faith life that will never cease,
Giving them God’s hope and…
Peace,

Wales' Tales 5/26/15

With water rising in the creek,
The lawn’s a soggy mess,
The grass is growing near knee deep,
Too tall I must confess.
And as the storms go rolling through,
Each day a little more
It makes you wonder if God plans
For what we have in store.
To build an ark or just a raft
Goes flashing through my mind
But soon enough the rain will end
And dryness we will find
Invades the land as sun beats down
To bring us summer heat,
Humidity will start to rise -
Inside we will retreat
It’s hard to think not long ago
There was no AC cool
We had to make a window fan
A breeze upon a stool.
A shady tree was all we had,
Perhaps a chip of ice,
A watermelon in a stream
Brought us a chilly slice.
And then at night the heat would grow
As we lay on the bed
And hoped a morning breeze would blow
Relief from heat we’d dread.
The “good old days” we soon forget
Were never quite so good,
Our memories begin to fade
Our days misunderstood.
The good old days were good because
Of people who were there,
They shared events that filled each day
Their love and joy to share,
What lies ahead are more good days
When lived with faith’s release
For goodness lies within the soul
A gift of God’s sure …
                                    Peace,

Wales' Tales 5/19/2015

I woke to hear a nature song
Sung by a cheerful lark,
Announcing that the night was through.
The world no longer dark.
Its song was joined by other birds
Who chirped and whistled clear,
The promise that another day
Was clearly drawing near.
A gentle breeze had made its way
Through open window screen
And as the sun was creeping out
It opened on a scene
Of springtime blooms and
Budding trees, of squirrels in active play
A perfect time to enjoy the world
A perfect time to pray
No intrusion of the busy world,
No horns to blast away,
No radio or MP3
To help my mind to stray
Just quiet meditative time
To share some words with God
Before I need to rouse myself
Or let some other prod
Me into action where I work
Or goad me into stress
A quiet time to just relax
Before I have to dress.
And in that time of breaking day
I find I have the chance
To re-align my attitude
As I put on my pants.
You see, I talked to God today,
A perfect way to start
And in the process, I have found
That God is in my heart.
So, if a song should wake you up,
Before that time might cease,
Begin a conversation deep
With one who offers…
                                    Peace,
                                                Alex
