Wales' Tales 2/18/15

Just when things were going fine,
The roof caved in again,
The pipes were frozen,
Power went off
And it was only then
I realized that I had a chance
To choose a different road.
But maybe if I went that way
I’d have to bear the load
Of something unexpected,
Of something just brand new,
A possibility things would change
And leave me in a stew.
I might require surgery to make room
For new thoughts,
I might discover that my life would
Then incur new “oughts”.
New names to then remember,
New ways to make my way,
I just might have to then become
Another self at play.
I’d have to make adjustments
To how I live my life,
Including how I deal with trust
And pain and woe and strife.
Who knows what else would happen?
What things would soon occur?
I might discover different food,
Not things that I prefer.
So maybe now I think that
I like my little rut,
I feel so safe and satisfied,
No turmoil in my gut.
Yet maybe God has other plans
For me and for my life
That might make all the difference
Just like butter cut by knife.
So being safe and sorry
Are the things I must release,
And follow where God leads me
Is perhaps my path to…

Wales' Tales 2/9/15

The world is in a sorry shape
With wars, and floods and storms,
One might expect a change in things -
Instead we see these norms.
With neighbor killing neighbor,
And drug deals going bad,
With hi-jackings and terrorists,
I have to think it’s sad
To know that after centuries
We humans have not grown
Instead we seem to reap the pain
From all the seeds we’ve sown.
Why don’t we learn that violence
Is not the way to go?
That eye for eye and tooth for tooth
Is just a way so slow
That keeps the anger growing,
That lets hate overflow
Until the world is in this mess
As we so easily know.
The problem is we do not trust
The people at our door,
So trying to accept the folk
From far hurts even more.
But we forget that there’s a bond
That links us one to one,
From when the chaos ruled the dark,
When creation was begun.
God set the way  to peace, you see,
When making you and me,
A plan that called for sharing love
As we were meant to be.
And if we really want to change,
Our fighting then to cease,
We need to put our trust in God,
And seek the road to…
                                    Peace,

Wales' Tales 020215

The sun is shining, bright and bold,
But let me tell you, it is cold!
The temp was sitting right at 7
Cold enough, my life to leaven.
When it’s frigid like today
We know that there are ways to pay
For all the heat we did enjoy,
When balmy temps we did employ.
I thought of golf, of raking leaves
Of taking down the Christmas sheaves.
But now, I’m sitting in my room
Filled with an unsettling gloom
Because the break that we once knew
Was just a tease of winter’s clue
To make us think that cold is past
That surely winter cannot last,
But as the ground hog sees his cast
Upon the snow that holds him fast
He promises we got six more
We know what winter has in store.
More ice and snow,
More winds that blow,
The cold that chills the nose and toe.
It pushes spring a long way off,
Before our scarves and gloves we’ll doff
But since we know that spring will come
It helps relieve the numbing some.
So we will wait for warmer days,
When trees will bud and sunlight plays
On grass that growing green and strong
And birds repeat their summer song.
So, find a book and blanket warm,
Avoid the wind and blustery storm.
With cup of cocoa, chills release,
And watch the snow, enjoy the …
